And objects can be enchanted, if they have the right properties. There are materials that take magic better, and the process requires skilled craftsmen working alongside a mage. It's not my specialty, but Enchanter Julius might be able to explain more.

If there's a danger of it, you won't be sent without a mage. We have means to look for glyphs, if there's reason to believe someone would have laid them.
People aren't blind to our utility. They'd just prefer it if the Chantry and their templars kept us on a leash, so we don't choose how we spend our abilities.
Southern mages weren't allowed coin. If they were paid, the templars would have taken it. I expect it would have been kept aside to enrich the Chantry.
